Tone criticism[edit]

Not an Original Anecdote[edit]

I have a problem with the following paragraph:

"On January 4, 2006, CNN analyst Jack Cafferty relayed an anecdote about Shaw when discussing the role of the media in the Sago Mine disaster. Cafferty said on CNN's Situation Room that when conversing with Shaw about why he was the only anchor covering the 1981 assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan to not report that James Brady was dead, Shaw said that he didn't go on air with the information because he didn't have confirmation with "anyone in the room." According to Cafferty, Shaw did not report the erroneous information, when all the network anchors did."

While this passage implies that Jack Cafferty was the first to relay this anecdote, the story has in fact appeared in a number of published sources, including Whittemore's CNN: The Inside Story and subsequent publications. WorldWide Update 21:05, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing the paragraph entirely, mainly because the gist of it is simply not true. I have a tape of some of the CNN Reagan assassination attempt coverage, and Shaw DOES say that Jim Brady is dead. Several times, in fact... once even attributing it to the White House. So while it may be true that Shaw has been saying that about himself (which I'll chalk up to faulty memory of an intense day), his claim is incorrect. --68.155.165.159 (talk) 23:07, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't he the first Afro-American news anchor?[edit]

It's surprising that neither here nor on the CNN page is it noted that Shaw was the first. I seem to remember that CNN back then made a big deal about this. I know the same was said about Max Robinson when he co-hosted the ABC News program.
