Barrow was raised on the East Side- 73 St, and went to the progressive Hunter Model School. He graduated from Syracuse U, wher he had hhis own radio program "The Night Mayor of Syracuse" He went on to get a Masters Degree frm Columbia U and a PhD from Yale. He spent many years as a professor of Drama at Brooklyn U.
