Article title[edit]

Please help me understand why this was moved from "Belzec Trial", which appears to be by far the most common name in English, to "Bełżec Trial", which I have yet to find in an English book source? --Bermicourt (talk) 20:19, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There's an ongoing debate about the use of actual real Polish names of settlements as they exist in real life, for all Holocaust camps in World War II at Talk:Auschwitz Trial#Requested move April 2014. Poeticbent talk 22:25, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bełżec results of requested move[edit]

This article (Bełżec) is affected by the results of Talk:Sobibór extermination camp#Requested move discussion regarding uniformity of spelling of the actual real locations in Poland with the use diacritics per Wikipedia:Article titles policy/guideline. Hi Poeticbent. Yes I read that and was surprised it succeeded as it was also based on a line of argument that WP:AT does not support. It is entirely reasonable to use native names of places if there is no common English exonym. So if the majority of sources use "Sobibór" for the town, fine. But nowhere in WP:AT does it say that native place names must be used in the title of subjects, very widely covered in English sources, that overwhelmingly use Anglicized names thus meeting the two most important criteria: WP:COMMONNAME and WP:USEENGLISH. If anything, there is an argument the other way: that the Bełżec town article should be renamed Belzec because, in English, we frequently use that spelling, albeit usually in connexion with the camp and the trial. I'm happy to be corrected if I have misread WP:AT, but it seems pretty clear to me. --Bermicourt (talk) 17:12, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Bermicourt. I myself wasn't sure how to !vote in that discussion as you can see, but I accepted the voice of the majority, as usual. Cheers, Poeticbent talk 18:15, 18 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
