Billy Bedford[edit]

This was known in slang in Ickleford where I lived for some years as the "Billy Bedford" (long after it had closed). The embankment now forms part of the Hitchin Flyover, and in Ickleford there is now a development of houses where the embankment flew over Ickleford's high street (actually called "Arlesey Road") and the cul-de-sac is called "The Embankment" where obviously it should be called "The place where the embankment used to be before we turfed it all down to put in these expensive but tiny houses". I used to walk down that embankment from Ickleford to Hitchin to get spare parts for my car at the scrap dealers (now part of Arriva) at the other end of it in Hitchin. But I can't find a ref on a search to it being called the "Billy Bedford", but perhaps others could? I just add for information in case it helps another editor on a search. Agreed. It was known as the "Billy Bedford line" during my childhood in Ickleford, but I've no idea where you can find any reference. TiffaF (talk) 19:32, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
