"Prepare it for use"?[edit]

Does bed-making really "prepare it for use"? Usually when I want to prepare it for use, I unmake it by pulling the end of the covers down so I can get in. Isn't it more accurate to say that bed-making makes it neater for aesthetic appeal? Leucosticte (talk) 15:51, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First, define 'use'. Granted, an argument can be said that use implies that the user is imminently going to use the bed for the purpose of sleeping. Conversely use can be implied to mean that the act of making the bed prepares the bed to be used, as without sheets, it would not be usable. The latter condition would then state that without sheets, the bed cannot be used...

Finally, I work on a lot of MILHIST stuff and I'm trying to figure out how this applies to MILHIST, if at all. Yes, it can be argued that there is an emphasis on making the bed correctly in boot camps, but I don't think that this would be in the scope of the MILHIST project. Unless I can hear a valid argument in the next seven days, I am going to remove the MILHIST project label.User:Aneah 13:29, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What does it actually do?

I would expect this article to state the answer.

"Prepare it for use" is not correct, since it can be used equally well without this preparation.
