Program title[edit]

This has been around before (see the talk page for CBeebies), the title which comes up at the start of each episode is "Becky and Barnaby Bear", not "Barnaby Bear". Barnaby Bear is the name of the Geographical Association character. BarnabyBear 15:10, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The programme title is Barnaby Bear. I refer you to the website at BBC Schools. Their catalogue lists the show as Barnaby Bear, not Becky and Barnaby Bear. The website lists it as Barnaby Bear. How the hell much more convincing do you need???? I am referring this to the admins as the next move I make on this site will breech the 3RR. Thor Malmjursson 11:58, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can see the BBC schools website makes no reference to the TV programme, nor do any of the photos feature the Barnaby puppet. The Geographical Association also has pages on "Barnaby Bear" [1], however that character is not the same as the TV programme. Each episode I have seen on CBeebies gives the title at the end of the theme song as "Becky and Barnaby Bear", irrespective of links or programme listings. It would be easy to demonstrate with a snapshot of this title page, if it would come under fair use of the image? BarnabyBear 21:26, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd just like to point out that if you Google ("Becky and Barnaby Bear" site:bbc.co.uk) you get zero hits. By the way, convention would dictate that article should be at Barnaby Bear (TV series). --  Netsnipe  ►  13:45, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but as I've said before I am basing the title on what I have seen on the TV programme on CBeebies. Titles are often shortened, for example a google search for "dr strangelove" returns 2.5M entries, whilst "dr strangelove" -"love the bomb" returns 2.1M entries - so that title is shortend 84% of the time. I agree that renaming the article to "Becky and Barnaby Bear (TV series)" would be a good move. BarnabyBear 21:26, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough then, Barnaby. As it appears we can sort of reach a consensus on the issue, I will go ahead with the approval of those concerned and change the article to Becky and Barnaby Bear (TV series) - and if no one minds, I will assemble an article on Barnaby Bear, if one does not already exist, to show the difference between the characters and the tv show. A good compromise. I've created a disambiguation page, Barnaby Bear (disambiguation), since there is also a comic strip called Barnaby Bear (in English), also known as Rasmus Klump. Given the number of different Barnaby Bears I've included a screenshot from the TV series to help differentiate this page. BarnabyBear 21:02, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Barnaby. I am glad we got that one sorted out. I have also noticed that there was a BBC TV Children's series broadcast during the 1960's and 70's called Barnaby the Bear. I think that I will create a page for this one as soon as I can grab enough information about it, and then I will add that one also to the disambiguation of the article. That way we can have all the Barnaby's pointing to the right place so that absolutely no-one gets confuzzled in any way! Regards, and once again thanks. Uh oh... I think I am going to start a war...[edit]

Further to all of this doohickey above, I now have conclusive proof that the show is indeed called Barnaby Bear, and not Becky and Barnaby Bear. I know this has been discussed to blue-in-the-faceness, but it now needs sorting. I refer you to the CBeebies website 1 which clearly describes the programme as "Barnaby Bear A fun drama starring a litle girl and her friend, Barnaby the Bear." and also references it throughout the page as Barnaby Bear, and not Becky and Barnaby Bear. So, as last my original move is vindicated, and I now expect to be able to get this article moved again with no arguements. Thor Malmjursson 13:12, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is further confused because there are two series with the Barnaby puppet - one which is called "Becky and Barnaby Bear" (as per screen shot) and was made in 2001 (if I remember correctly), and a later series (which was made in 2005) with a different title sequence. This second series is the "Watch" programs, and doesn't feature Becky. Currently none of these episodes are on the BABB page. I would suggest as a compromise that we go for "(Becky and) Barnaby Bear"? BarnabyBear 23:20, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
