Barakoma Airfield[edit]

I am writing on behalf of my people of Vella LA Vella Island regarding the Barakoma Airfield. Since WWII 1943-1945 this airfield was running and operated the TAA plane from Australia which delivers passengers and Mails right across the Western Solomons from Munda, Barakoma and Bougainville. Then in 7/7/1978 Solomon Islands became Independence and Solomon Airlines Ltd took over the flights about 30 internal airfields including Barakoma Airfield. As the years of self governing went on the fundings have cut down so the Barakoma Airfield was closed due to over grown of shrubs and trees on the entire Airfield and no maintenance done. Now this beautiful Barakoma airfield is abandoned by Solomon Airlines Ltd and SI government. As the Munda Airfield has been upgraded by Downer Engineering co New Zealand, and now operating direct flights from Brisbane to Munda. I am appealing to US Marines who build and based at Barakoma Airfield if its possible to upgrade our Barakoma Airfield. It is crucial for this airfield to be upgraded Why? Because of WWII veterans who love to come visit Vella LA Vella Island where they lost their loved ones. Also Tourism is booming in my province Western Province, Solomon Islands. Barakoma Airfield was first WWII base in Solomon Islands. As Munda Airport is now opening and Tourists, Veterans both USA, NZ, Australia will want to travel to these two Airports to visit the places where their men fought in WWII. Please help, help,..help! Thank you. (J B Nonipitu, Vella LA Vella Island) Janet Butler Nonipitu (talk) 22:25, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
