Comment on tribute[edit]
James Blish's 1959 Hugo award winning novel "A Case of Conscious" has a depraved socialite character named the Countess des Bois-d'Averoigne, and her physicist husband Lucien le Comte des Bois-d'Averoigne, certainly a tribute to C. A. Smith.

Berry as the "Real World" Equivalent?[edit]
I've read some conversation on the EldritchDark.com forums that paint an intriguing possibility that the medieval French province of Berry makes a better analogue for Averoigne as depicted in the earlier stories in the series, rather than Auvergne. Does anybody else think the opening statement should be modified to at least insert some doubt as to "Averoigne=Auvergne"? Ishldgetoutmore (talk) 00:06, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
