Notable people[edit]

I removed [1] all the non-wikilinked entries from this list. I say that only people with their own Wikipedia article should be included here. Sound OK?—C45207 | Talk 07:50, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 1 July 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Not moved (closed by non-admin page mover) * Pppery * it has begun... 19:33, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

– state name is generally not prefixed. The other Aurangabad is already renamed and that page will be moved accordingly so there will be no duplicate. Anubhavklal (talk) 17:41, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note: the move request at Talk:Aurangabad#Requested move 30 June 2023 conflicted with this request, so it has been combined with this request. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 02:52, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You should withdraw this until your other move request AurangabadChhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is completed (or combine both into one move request) because this one depends on the other. [Edit: They were combined.] Additionally, you need to show that this is now the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC if someone were to refer to Aurangabad, including out of the many other possible topics at Aurangabad (disambiguation). In the absence of evidence for that, I would be opposed. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk), 1 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Oppose - The Aurangabad, Maharashtra now officially named Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar is the primary topic for the term Aurangabad WP:ONEOTHER. This RM is mixed with two different topics: 1. Moving Aurangabad, Maharashtra to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar; 2. Making Aurangabad, Bihar the primary topic. The #1 is inappropriate here. — DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 11:11, 2 July 2023 (UTC) (11:20, 2 July 2023 (UTC))[reply]
  • Oppose per DaxServer. The far larger city in Maharashtra is still the primary topic for Aurangabad, its name for nearly 400 years. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:22, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • (Further comment). Now that these requests have been combined, note that #2 is really the main request, and that it could pass even if #1 fails. However, there is still a need to show that it has become the WP:COMMONNAME, not just the official name. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 23:24, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is the main move request and reason:

AurangabadChhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar – Commonly used name now is Chatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Anubhavklal

    I suggest focusing on that piece. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 09:23, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Please raise that discussion on that article, not here where it's irrelevant — DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 10:23, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Both requests were combined here and both articles have banners linking to this discussion. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 20:26, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Looking at news results, while the trend for the new name is an upward trend, this move request will likely have to be repeated in perhaps a year's time or so. The title is likely to move, just as of now the sources havent fully switched. Would recommend another MR a while later for the same. Captain Jack Sparrow (talk) 04:51, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Just want to know what is the exact criteria for common name. From WP:COM it is not clear what is the cutoff, when usage of name starts changing due to some event, for example, official name change in this case. Anubhavklal (talk) 16:26, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Compare number of news results in the last year for both titles, that dont mention the other title. Pick the one that has higher article count. Captain Jack Sparrow (talk) 16:58, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
