Dave Stewart is no longer at Audit Commission

Death of the Commission[edit]

The following was removed as too vague: The BBC's Laura Kuenssberg said that "Sources I've spoken to believe the Audit Commission can do the job more cheaply than big private accounting firms." (Source [1]). It is of course vague but it is a direct quote from the BBC political editor, and it is the only information on the relative costs of the proposed change we have at the moment, so removing it unbalances the article (WP:NPOV). I recall that Private Eye may have covered the issue, and surely others have too, so those willing to delete this text ought really to be willing to do the work of replacing it with something better. PS a relevant point of fact is that the Commission was already doing 30% of its audits via private firms, providing a comparator for inhouse work. It's not like the Commission has no idea if its own work is good value for money. Rd232 ^talk 09:10, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, I just find it mindboggling that the government can get away with abolishing an organisation that was doing a half-decent job, in favour of handing out work to their private sector friends, which will cost more (even though it's supposedly an age of austerity) and achieve less. National Fraud Initiative[edit]

Hello there. Firstly I'd like to declare a COI - my name's Jim and I'm the Digital Communications Manager at the Audit Commission. I'm new to Wikipedia so any advice and assistance you can offer would be very welcome.

I've noticed that a large amount of information about the National Fraud Initiative has been added to this page in the last few weeks and I'm after an opinion on whether you feel it's appropriate.

The National Fraud Initiative is a very small part of what the Audit Commission does but it now takes up the majority of the article. I wonder if much of the new information could be reduced to one or two points and moved to the criticism and controversy section?

I'd be pleased to hear your thoughts.

Also, although I won't be editing the page due to my COI, if it would be helpful I can provide updates for other sections on the page i.e. staff numbers, changes of function etc.

Edits to reflect changes in corporate structure and function[edit]

Firstly a COI declaration - my name's Jim and I work at the Audit Commission.

The Audit Commission has recently restructured and it's functions have changed. These had not been updated in the Wikipedia entry so after seeking editor assistance (thanks Jezhotwells) I have amended the entry to reflect the changes.
