When was it abolished[edit]

Was this parish abolished in 1991 per the grouping order or 2011 per UKBMD and the fact sources into the 21st century appear to treat it as still a parish. I can't find any legislation on it being abolished in 2011. NOMIS does treat South Hykeham as being a separate parish in the 2011 census but "Aubourn Haddington and South Hykeham" is treated as a parish in the 2001 census, @Stortford: do you know? Looks like North Kesteven District Council made a bit of a mess in their reorganisation orders here. The council made the Auborn, Haddington and South Hykeham Group (Dissolution) Order 1990, purporting to dissolve a grouped parish council. This order appears to have been based on the incorrect assumption that the 1931 reorganisation had been a grouping order placing three separate civil parishes under a grouped parish council, whereas it had actually gone a step further and merged the three parishes into one. They realised in 1992 that the 1990 Order was deficient for failing to define a new boundary between South Hykeham / Aubourn with Haddington, and so passed another order defining that boundary (sourced on the page), but even with that amendment passed they hadn't explicitly abolished the old parish or created new ones. It looks like the two separate parish councils were up and running from 1991. They finally sorted it out legally in 2011 by making this 2011 Order - note article 4 which re-implements the 1990 Order but with additional wording making explicit that the effect was to create separate parishes. I'd therefore say that the parishes were de facto split in 1991, but de jure weren't split until 2011. Stortford (talk) 04:46, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've clarified this though wording etc may still need improving. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:40, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
