Spam ?[edit]

This article was created by an editor whose user name clearly identifies them as being of the AAFA. I pondered submitting this for WP:AfD as a vanity/spam, but the organisation does exist and seems to have a reasonable long history, so...

  • Is this group notable (other than their own website claims) ?
    • If not then the article should be nominanted for deletion. (Being English I will not have encountered them however notable)
    • Otherwise this article needs other editors to possibly rephrase from an external independant point of view.
  • Are they as influential on either american asthmatics (protocols, advice, support, research) or US healthcare policy as claimed ? David Ruben Talk 01:43, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have made a few edits to the tone, but the AAFA web site is currently down, making it difficult to check the information they claim about themselves with what is available elsewhere.
http://www.healthfinder.gov/orgs/HR0187.htm -- AAFA information on USGOV healthfinder site
http://www.aaaai.org/patients/lay_organizations.stm -- AAFA listing on AAAI site, listings of lay organixations.
This organization seems notable enough to merit an article, but I share your concerns about the fact that it was created by someone affiliated with AAFA. In addition, this artilce only has one reference so far on Wikipedia... way too few.--M4701 12:38, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This org seems to check out. My wife has asthma and has donatd small $$ to this group in the past. She is in an asthma support group here in Chicago and said they often refer to this group as a credible and reliable source of info. In the U.S., the govt. keeps a pretty tight rope around nonprofits. I went online and found that they indeed are a IRS 501(c)3 organization (about 50 years old) and pretty well regarded. Hope this is helpful.  :-) Aboutsellular 21:24, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
