No status with the US Department of Education[edit]

To those who have removed the citations and information about Association of Christian Schools International lacking USDE or CHEA recognition to accredit schools please stop. It is important to make that clear. Arbusto 04:16, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rejoinder to: No status with the US Department of Education[edit]

Arbusto is comparing apples to oranges. ACSI does not, nor does it claim to, accredit postsecondary institutions. A quick survey of their directory makes it very clear that they have not claimed to accredited a single college or university. They have, however, accredited over 770 elementary and secondary schools, and many states recognize such accreditation for purposes of hiring, graduation standards, etc. In the state of Texas, for example, ACSI's accreditation is fully recognized by the state through its affiliation with TEPSAC, a Texas Education Agency approved accrediting organization. While certain evangelical colleges are MEMBERS of ACSI, membership is not the same thing as accreditation, as the ACSI website makes clear. http://www.acsi.org/web2003/default.aspx?ID=1875

It seems tendentious at best, and possibly intentionally misleading, to point out the fact that the CHEA does not recognize ACSI accreditation. To say that the Council for Higher Education Accreditation does not recognize ACSI is akin to saying that the CHEA does not recognize accreditation of preschools by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). ACSI is not in the business of accrediting institutions of higher learning, so of course CHEA would not list it as a recognized accrediting agency of postsecondary institutions.

One should also realize that, reflecting the longstanding tradition of local and state control of childhood education, the USDE does not have the stutory authority to recognize any elementary or secondary accrediting agency. While the USDE does recognize regional accrediting agencies lke SACS and NCACS in their role of accrediting colleges and universities, it does NOT recognize them in their role of accrediting elementary and secondary schools.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aw30 (talkcontribs).

It should be stated clearly that they do not have authorization to give university/college accreditation especially considering they allow those institutions to be "members." Arbusto 06:19, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Remove From Category?[edit]

The organizations listed in the category, Unrecognized accreditation associations, all refer to accrediting agencies for colleges and universities (i.e., institutions of higher learning). Even though ACSI is not associated with or connected to the US Department of Education, I still believe this article should not be listed within that category because ACSI does not attempt to accredit institutions of higher learning, only primary and secondary schools.
