Syntax question[edit]

G'day, just wondering about the name of this medal and the others that use a similar construction. I assume that the name has been translated from Russian; are we certain about the syntax, though? Grammatically the "Medal Army General Margelov" seems quite awkward. I wonder if it shouldn't be the "Army General Margelov Medal". Thoughts? AustralianRupert (talk) 08:00, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AustralianRupert: Медаль «Генерал армии Маргелов» is the original Russian text. Medal "General (of the) Army Margelov" is the literal translation. The category for the rank General of the Army is called "Army generals" so when I created the page I titled it Army General instead of General of the Army. Most of the Soviet ODM articles use the same translation format, but there are some like the Medal for Battle Merit and Order for Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR that use your recommendation. G'day, no worries, I will leave it up to you as I don't speak Russian, but I think it would be okay to flip it around so that it sounds correct to English speaking ears. Regarding "Army General" v. "General of the Army", my understanding is that it is actually an important distinction as "General of the Army" would be a higher grade of general rank than full "General" (e.g. six star v. five star, or the equivalent difference between a Field Marshal and a full General in Commonwealth countries).
