Jumpy[edit]

Hm, I don't know. I think there are some practical issues (changing the prices in the same currency would create confusion). But there's always the political move of wiping the currency inserted by the previous president (or the last president of the other party). --Mariano(t/c) 20:03, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I lived in Argentina at the time of the conversion to Australes. Amazingly enough, the Austral was first issued on par with the US dollar (1 Austral=1 Dollar), a situation that created a flight to dollars by Argentines. Within a few weeks the exchange rate went to $1=10A and sank rapidly after that until Argentina abandoned the Austral and switched over to the new Peso. There was much fanfare by the government at the introduction of the Austral, with promises of financial and currency reform. Scammers[edit]

In Russia, cases were reported when scammers were paying with australs, claiming these were Australian dollars. Were any cases reported of it happening elsewhere (Russian Wikipedia claims there were, but no source is provided)? Omeganian (talk) 16:17, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
