Semi-protected edit request on 7 July 2021 (2)[edit]

The section on ideology referenced below claiming that Aontú is a Catholic party is nonsense. This "newsletter.co.uk" is not in any way a reliable source, it's similar to relying on someone's blog or oopinion piece. Please search the Aontú website and see if you can find any Catholic promotion.

Per WP:ER, edit requests are not for changes that don't have consensus. Since this attempted change has been reverted by several editors, it does not have consensus. FDW777 (talk) 21:41, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also I'm sure the party's anti-abortion stance is 100% unconnected with Catholicism. And I just saw Elvis riding a flying pig.... FDW777 (talk) 21:42, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Can we remove the claim that the party is a Catholic party? There is no evidence for that, there are no formal links, the membership is open to all faiths. Please remember that this semi-protection is happening during an election and the page should be open for editing to remove these type of assertions that have no unquestionable evidence or proof.
No electioneering, thank you. FDW777 (talk) 07:13, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, no electioneering or moves to affect an election with spurious claims
It appears to have been in the article, apparently unchallenged, since September 2019. That several people chose yesterday and today to challenge it is quite revealing. FDW777 (talk) 10:18, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It reveals that people were looking for information about parties in an election and were presented with false information that could not be rectified in an election period

Fake reference[edit]

The party is an all-Ireland republican party with a left-wing economic stance is not referenced by this. The only mention of this anti-abortion party is in the sentence And does it say something about what could happen to Aontu, another socially conservative micro-party? After checking the history, it was being used correctly before the disruptive change. FDW777 (talk) 11:10, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Abbreviation "Aon"[edit]

Consistently throughout infoboxes on pages such as constituencies, elections, etc. the party is referred to as "Aon". While I understand there are cases where brevity is necessary and Aontú has to be abbreviated alongside other parties, e.g. Fianna Fáil = FF, Labour = Lab, Alliance Party of Northern Ireland = APNI. However, the party is being called "Aon" in places where it is not necessary to shorten the name, especially not to one which it is not commonly shortened to, such as constituency infoboxes, electoral result boxes, etc. Meanwhile in the same infoboxes parties such as Alliance, Labour, People Before Profit, etc. are spelled out in full. This is confusing and people would at a glance assume the party is called "Aon" in full. In my view, this needs to be rectified and the party's full name restored where appropriate. I have changed the shortname from "Aon" to "Aontú". Spleodrach (talk) 07:33, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
