Mistake in otherwise reliable source[edit]

There is an obvious mistake in the entry for "Ansei no taigoku" in Japan Encyclopedia.

I cannot explain "the first to be purged was Ii Naosuke". It is a mistake.

However, the lead sentence and the remaining subordinate clause are useful as brief summaries of this complex subject. --Ansei (talk) 21:06, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clarify type of purge.[edit]

You have to really read this in detail and click on additional links one by one to discover that these people were apparently only forced to retire early rather than having been executed or something. "Purge" is a scary word... it should not be this difficult to get to the bottom line of what happened. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.213.20.170 (talk) 02:59, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
