One of the Glasgow promoters of Otago in 1845 was Dr Andrew Aldcorn of Oban, who is recorded as the secretary of the Glasgow committee, and had travelled to its inaugural meeting from Oban. I don't suppose this rules out his having been in Port Philip district in 1840 or 1841, and he clearly had interests in sheep enterprises there before 1843, apparently in partnership with an Argyll immigrant Alexander McCallum from Kilmartin. But immigration in the early 1840s?Delahays (talk) 23:32, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He was also a delegate from the Free Church Presbytery of Mull and Lorn as a ruling elder to is general assembly of 1844Delahays (talk) 23:44, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting - the Victorian Parliament says c1841, but the NSW one says 1853. Perhaps he visited in 1841 (establishing interests) and then relocated permanently in 1853? Frickeg (talk) 00:09, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The current date of settlement offered on the Victorian Parliament Re-member page for Aldcorn is 1853. There is also conflicting evidence for his place of birth, which is also said to have been Bathgate. He certainly practiced as a physician in Oban in the 1830s, and was also active in Kirk business, eventually coming out with the Free Church at the disruption.Delahays (talk) 20:26, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ancestry has a transcript of his 1851 census return from Argyll Square, Oban, in which he says he was born in Bathgate, Linlithgow. scotlandspeople has an image of the original returnDelahays (talk) 22:38, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
