I fixed some links and made some other copy edits. The WP:MOS prefers shorter sentences. Two issues. First, it seems to me that there is a bit too much info about Gange here, since this is her article rather than his. For example, his association with the BSO and the additional information about his teaching. I would try to keep the info about him down to what is needed to illustrate her activities. I imagine that you are planning to do an article on him, and all this stuff can go there. I have left him red-linked in anticipation of an article. Second, much of the recordings section is unreferences. No doubt part of it can be referenced to some of the same sources. Do you know how to do a "ref name=" type ref? If not, I'd be happy to help. Is the stuff about Bergh contained in any reference, or is it your own conclusion? If the latter, it's WP:OR, and it really shouldn't be here. I'm not a stickler for enforcing that guideline, but I leave it to your conscience. The article is quite nice, really, considering the dearth of information available about the subject. Categories - I changed her from "Welsh opera singers" to "Welsh female singers", but I'm not sure. Many of the "Welsh female singers" are pop singers.... Feel free to revert if you think that "opera singers" is better, or maybe we need both? Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:06, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind words and, of course, for the extensive linguistic midwifery in getting this article into shape. On lengthy sentences, I'll plead guilty as charged, as my writing style just naturally runs that way. I agree that Gange's career is peripheral to the subject, but, that said, I think some information about his activities is necessary to provide context and prevent misimpressions, particularly, as you suggest, given that he has no article of his own as yet. (See? Another lengthy sentence!) As to the teaching career, I thought it pertinent background to the family's move, as otherwise his achievement of such a distinguished position might appear to have sprung up out of nowhere; the Boston association I considered necessary to prevent a reader from wondering why participating in his last performance there was any more significant than in his last performance anywhere else. I'll freely admit that reasonable minds can differ on where to strike the balance.

Agreed. The problem isn't so much that we have too much on him as that we don't have enough about her.

As far as references, nearly all of what I added about recordings derives from the Evans Discography page and its .mp3 subpage on the Fagan site; as the end of the section highlights a link there, I thought a profusion of footnotes pointing to it would simply clutter the page. If I erred in that, I'd welcome your suggestions or help in fixing it.

I think you should put the footnote cites in throughout next to the appropriate text (see WP:CITE). I'll try to put them in, based on what you just said, but please confirm that I have the right footnotes next to the right text.

About the only thing I added "from my head" was the bit about wind bands substituting for orchestras, and that's such common knowledge among those who listen to/collect/research records of the period that I don't think it really needs a citation--rather like giving a citation for films of the same era containing cue cards instead of spoken dialogue.

If it is common knowledge, there must be lots of references that mention it. I would urge you to find a reference and add it as a footnote. There are lots of Wikipedia readers who don't know this. -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:22, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

On categories: I'll leave Welsh female singers, which seems logical, but I'll add Welsh opera singers back in. Although I'm not formally a member, I know that the Opera Wikiproject folks have been systematically putting "opera singer" category tags on just about everyone who had an operatic career, and I think hers was sufficiently extensive to qualify.
