Requested move 1[edit]

The result of the move request was: no move. Rough consensus that the nomination is premature. Andrewa (talk) 01:27, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alvin Brown (politician)Alvin Brown – There's some recentism to this, but I think the newly-elected Mayor of Jacksonville has emerged as the primary topic of the title "Alvin Brown". "Alvin brown"+mayor currently returns hundreds of hits on Google News and its archives as well as 137,000 on Google search; "Alvin Brown"+boxer returns 33 hits in the Google News archives and 24,700 in a Google search. Additionally, Alvin Brown (where the boxer's article was formerly located) had gotten fewer than 200 page views a month for months prior to May 2011;[1] by contrast Alvin Brown (politician) has gotten 1334 and counting just since it was created on May 18.[2]--Cúchullain t/c 20:49, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In short, having won an election last week, he's currently in the news. Unsurprising, especially in an off year; get back to us if he continues to be more prominent than the boxer, especially in years he isn't running. Wikinews is down the street. It's not just that he's in the news, it's that as of now, there already appear to be many more sources discussing the mayor than the boxer. And as he's just been elected, it's certain that more sources will continue to appear. The boxer doesn't appear to have fought a match since 2008, suggesting new sources about him will be fewer.Cúchullain t/c 02:04, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Renominate in a few months. I can understand the nominator's reasoning, but I think it would be better to revisit this discussion in a few months when the recentism won't be quite so apparent. Jenks24 (talk) 16:11, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alvin Brown (politician)Alvin Brown – Per the previous discussion, I'm reopening this discussion now that 7 months have passed. I believe it's clear at this point that this is the primary meaning. Alvin Brown (politician) gets many times more page views[3] than the only other article with this title, Alvin Brown (boxer),[4] and has ever since it was created in May ([5] vs. [6]) Additionally, the disambig page Alvin Brown ([7]) gets more hits than the boxer's article, suggesting that more readers are looking for the mayor. There are now hundreds of hits for "Alvin Brown"+mayor in Google News and its archives, compared to a total of 38 in the archives for "Alvin Brown"+boxer, with similar results for the standard Google search and Google Video. More sources continue to appear daily for the mayor, while new sources for the boxer are much fewer. Disambiguation needs can be served with a hatnote.--Cúchullain t/c 20:51, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • rename -- I am not sure that either is particularly notable, but I would suggest that the article on the way should be at "Alvin Brown", with a hatnote link for the boxer. Unless its retention is needed for incoming links, the present title for the mayor would not need to be kpet as a redirect. Peterkingiron (talk) 14:08, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • rename per nom. Pageviews in recent months make it abundantly clear an overwhelming number of readers are looking for the mayor. Station1 (talk) 00:31, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename: Cúchullain has it right. Enough time has passed to verify that Alvin Brown the mayor is the more prominent figure of the two. A hatnote at the top would help the few who are seeking the boxer instead. María (yllosubmarine) 15:31, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
