The above seems to suggest that the parenthetical disambigiator is not WP:PRECISE enough, However, in practice, the disambiguator (footballer) evokes association football for many articles on European players of the sport and this article does not need further WP:PRECISION in disambiguating by country, as Alex Taylor (rugby union) plays rugby union, a different code altogether. - Rugby players are called "footballers" in New Zealand.[1][2][3] New Zealand is not in Europe, so "Alex Taylor (footballer)" should redirect to the New Zealand article for all Wikipedians coming from New Zealand, and to the Socttish player only for users coming from Europe? Obviously, the country should be added to the Scottish player's article title, since we should not discriminate against New Zealanders. -- 67.70.33.184 (talk) 03:24, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  - IP, (footballer) as a disambigator on Wikipedia, largely does refer to association football player. See Mohammed Rafi (footballer), and Bilal Khan (footballer), of India, and Li Ang (footballer) of China. Mohamed Salah (Indian footballer) or Jaime Vásquez (Chilean footballer) are also not European, but they are still disambiguated with footballer. The latter two could be confused with other people in association football that share the same name, so that is why they are disambigated by nationality. That is, Mohamed Salah (football manager) is an Egyptian association football coach, and Jaime Vásquez (Peruvian footballer) is a Peruvian association football player. Again, nationality usually comes into play if the athletes play under the same code. More examples include: Aaron Connolly (Irish footballer), Aaron Connolly (Scottish footballer), Alan Judge (English footballer), Alan Judge (Irish footballer), Andy Reid (Irish footballer), Andy Reid (Scottish footballer). I reiterate that "(footballer)" distinctly refers to association football for most of the world. The first choice is to disambiguate by code, and the current title does just that. Australian rules footballers like Lewis Taylor, are disambigated like so: Lewis Taylor (Australian footballer), Gordon King (American football) is an American football player. I grant that association footballers can also be disambiguated with soccer, as in the case of the American Michael Bradley (soccer), while the Irish athlete who plays under a different code is simply Michael Bradley (rugby union). Here again, the Michael Bradleys' nationalities do not factor into disambiguation because of the difference in code. - "Footballer" is only the usual disambiguator if there is no other competing topic. Just like any other disambiguator, the simpler form only works if there's only one topic. For this topic, there are two footballers (in differing codes) by the same name, thus needing to move this one to either "Scottish footballer" or the complementary disambiguator "association football" (which is a worse choice, even though it uses the football code's name) -- 67.70.33.184 (talk) 03:24, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
