Untitled[edit]

Please update the Alan Murphy (Level 42 Musician) page. Missing details include date of birth, date of death, guitar collection and personal picture (preferablw w/ Level 42 band-mates).

POV[edit]

This article is nothing but POV. Did Alan Murphy's best friend write this? -- eo 16:03, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edits and Standards[edit]

Did some edits and brought the layout up to date with an artist box. Added Birth/Death. However missing actual birthday all I could find is 1953.

Deletion[edit]

I've tidied this up and made it NPOV, but I don't think that the bloke in question warrants a Wikipedia entry. For someone who (according to the article) was a regular session player with many artists there are very few links to this site (6-ish?) suggesting lack of importance. IP address 195.92.168.163 removed the AfD Tag with no discussion. Please state your reasons for keeping on this page rather than just removing the tag. Dancarney 12:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dan I am 195.92.168.163 I am very new to Wikipedia.I happened to look if Alan Murphy had anything on Wikipedia and saw this thing saying his entry was going to be removed in 5 days.I just had a crack at adding some stuff with the hope of saving it and found I could get this thing off that was going to wipe it all.My apologies if I went about it all wrong. I strongly disagree that Alan Murphy isn't important enough to warrant being on Wikipedia. He was an integral member of two top 80s UK bands - Go West and Level 42 and a key player with Kate Bush and he WAS one of our brightest guitar hopes of the time, call that a POV if you like,I base it on the reputation he had and my knowledge as a guitarist,I'd certainly rate Alan as a 'musician's musician' so to speak.. Again forgive my revisions,I thought someone else more informed/technically skilled could work on it/improve it along the way.By removing Alan it creates a catch 22 situation - he won't get to be important enough for Wikipedia because this very signpost to his impressive musical legacy won't exsist anymore. This isn't about what I wrote, fair enough, wipe it.It's about Alan himself and his remarkable, enduring and under-rated talents. All the best Dan,Kevin.

I've had a quick research on Alan Murphy, and I'm satisfied that you're correct and he does meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion so I've removed the AfD tag. Please add more stuff to this article if you've got it, just be sure that the tone is neutral (phrases such as "Murphys dazzling contributions..." are POV) and there aren't any unsubstantiated claims ("Peter Cox regarded Alan as a crucial element to Go West's sound" can't be included, for instance). Maybe you'd also want to ensure that all appropriate pages link to this article - for starters, Go West (band) includes no links to here. Dancarney 09:31, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank's Dan,very pleased the AfD tag has been removed, that was the main thing.I will see if I can add anything non-POV but there are other's who will have better knowledge than I who may be able to improve on that. I am I'm afraid very limited in my PC skills and don't know how to do links.Main thing is we now have an entry for Alan that can be built on over time, thanks again Kevin.

Thanks for opting not to delete; I would concur that as a musician Murphy definitely warrants an entry in Wikipedia; having discussed him over the years with a number of musician friends, he definitely had an impact on a lot of people.BenedictPoole (talk) 21:20, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
