Personal

Alan Grieve was born on 22 January 1928 to Lewis Millar Grieve and his wife Lillian (neé Amner)and was educated at Aldenham School followed by Trinity Hall, Cambridge in 1945. In 1948 he undertook his National Service with the 14th/20th King's Hussars as a trooper and junior officer and subsequently served in the City of London Yeomanry (Roughriders) and a Territorial Army officer.

In 1957 Alan Grieve married Anne Dulake, daughter of Dr Lawrence Dulake and Dr Nina Dulake by whom he has two sons and a daughter, Amanda, Lady Harlech. Following divorce he married Karen Louise Dunn daughter of Michael de Sivrac Dunn by whom he has one son and one daughter.
