Linux-related stub?[edit]

How is this a Linux-related stub? Putting aside the fact that it runs on Linux, there is no relationship between this and Linux. It runs on windows, but I don't see a Windows-related stub. I have removed this and if I am in error, feel free to replace it.

This page needs updating![edit]

the wiki for aircrack-ng has had a lot of information added to it over the last 18 months, this wikipedia entry is missing a lot of information about this product. The latest version is 0.9.4 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.241.11.36 (talk) 02:22, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

iPhone[edit]

Do we really need to have a whole section on the iPhone port, if it's only a proof of concept and not functional? I say remove the section and merge it into a sentence in the other part of the article. 97.117.2.59 (talk) 06:19, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so; removing the section and mentioning above. Also fixing the discussion of a port to Maemo devices, as that's Linux, too. 129.74.64.45 (talk) 01:35, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And it looks like Zaurus is mentioned separately, too; maybe long-term there should be a section about mobile devices mentioning all three, but for now, merging them all. 129.74.64.45 (talk) 01:37, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can crack wep with Aircrack-ng on an ipod touch apparently.[edit]

I saw my friend break into a wep encrypted network with his ipod touch in under a minute. I don't know exactly how he did it (I didn't read all the commands he was typing in) but he said he was using Aircrack-ng. To be fair this network was misconfigured and had a very large amount of background traffic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Foxale08 (talkcontribs) 23:39, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know this is not currently possible. The basic things required for aircrack-ng to be used are:

  • a wireless card that supports packet injection
  • a driver for the wireless card that can put it in monitor mode (and inject packets)
  • general software compatibility

Of course, general software compatibility can be solved, and in some cases has. I think the wireless cards on iOS devices do support packet injection, but the drivers have never been fully worked out. You can run aircrack-ng on firmware version 1.x and 2.x, but not capture or inject the packets. … so even now, you still need a computer to do 90% of the work. ~rezecib (talk) 06:47, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Legal issues[edit]

Can someone who is familiar with such matters add some notes about the legality of operating this software in different regions? Bdforbes (talk) 03:24, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PTW Attack[edit]

There isn't a link (neither external) to the new WEP attack. --93.67.6.109 (talk) 10:55, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hello everyone! I will continue to try to improve this article. However, I would like to ask for an external opinion regarding the images: At first I thought about taking a screenshot for each tool to demonstrate its functionality, but that might be beyond the scope of the page (WP:IG).

There are certainly some images that are more important than others (like the one on the Infobox demonstrating the functionality of the main tool), so I assume the options are at least 3:

  • Remove all images and leave only the one in the Infobox.
  • Keep the picture in the Infobox and maybe put maybe 2 or 3 more in the article for the "most important" tools (airodump-ng, airmon-ng...).
  • Put a gallery at the end of the article with most, if not all, screenshots of the tools for a demo.

I think I'll stop adding screenshots in the meantime, but still post them on Commons. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you and kind regards, IrrationalBeing (talk) 09:34, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
