Gillen's involvement in The dark knight rises.[edit]

So it's generally agreed upon that Aidan Gillen's character, as seen in the intro of The dark knight rises, is actually named "CIA".

This should silence the dispute regarding the name of the character he plays in TDKR, and should stop people from calling the character "CIA agent" or "Wilson". — Preceding unsigned comment added by AriaNazar (talkcontribs) 16:53, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. He's never been referred to as 'agent' by anyone in the film --JimmyRusell (talk) 01:57, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Actually his name is Bill Wilson. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.249.189.211 (talk) 19:16, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

sorry, but the name "bill wilson" appears in the paper adaptation of the flick, and has nothing to do with gillen's body of work or his role as CIA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.137.118.45 (talk) 02:39, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gillen's character introduces himself as CIA and is listed as CIA in the script. No mention of the name Bill Wilson is given in or around the actual film, only the novelisation. Regardless of if it's a pseudonym, it's the name used to refer to him in the film. [1] PseudoGenie (talk) 14:17, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why Aiden Gillen's role in The Dark Knight Rises should be in the intro.[edit]

Aidan Gillen's has a rather small role in the overall scheme of the film, but an extremely large role in the intro scene, which is perhaps as famous as the film itself.

The Daily Dot [1], Breitbart [2], and other sources have made mention of "Baneposting", an internet meme where people quote from the intro scene of The Dark Knight Rises. Considering that years after the movie, that there is enduring popularity of this scene, evidences that it should be mentioned in the lede, as Gillen's performance was a large part of that scene.Grognard Extraordinaire Chess (talk) Ping when replying 01:50, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Marital status[edit]

Aidan Gillen has contacted OTRS (VRTS ticket # 2015112610023119) to get our article corrected regarding his marital status. Gillen says his wife Olivia O'Flanagan and he separated in 2005, and that, since he prefers not to talk about his private life, media reports tend to be inaccurate or misleading on this issue. For example, The Guardian reported that in 2009 Gillen "lives with his wife Olivia O'Flanagan in Kerry"; The Independent reports basically the same in 2011. According to him, one source that might have gotten it right is a 2011 interview by Sarah Caden published in the Irish Sunday Independent's Life Magazine supplement, plus the 2015 article we cite for the separation. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find Caden's interview online. If someone can find a paper copy and see whether it's helpful, that would be appreciated. "and the actor said that he would be wary of taking a similar role in future"[edit]

This is misleading for various reasons. It makes it sound like he would not be taking a role like this because of the connotations with the alt-right, where he said that he would not because he favors smaller roles in the actual article. He has never acknowledged the meme as far as I know.

Understandably, he says that if he had to choose between a blockbuster bit-part and a low-budget lead, the latter would always win out. "I wouldn't be so quick to take on one scene in a film like that any more, I think. "
