Deformed Babes.[edit]

There isn't any evidence the Spartans killed or "exposed" deformed babies. The archeology has revealed many deformed individuals lived to adulthood in Sparta. Agesilaus II's life was not in danger because he was born with a deformity.

The only evidence for the claim Spartans did this is Plutarch, writing about something which happened hundreds of years before his time. It is likely Plutarch is operating off of outdated information.

Given the re-examination of this phenomena, informed by empirical investigation, the line about Agesilaus II bearing the risk of "exposure" should be itself re-examined. ANE was Nordic (talk) 06:20, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Evidently not because the sources are overwhelmingly in favor, both contemporary, and modern in favor of a view wherein they did not practice 'exposure'. There is one "source" claiming they did, Plutarch, he is widely considered to be unreliable as a source on this particular matter. ANE was Nordic (talk) 17:57, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
