A. vitiensis is a synonym ?[edit]

Erased statement

A. vitiensis is a synonym according to some, a seperate species according to others.

Maybe the latter part of above statement is not true any more according to the latest botanical studies, but I am not a botanist. I do know however that there are not so old works which threat the two (vitiensis and macrophylla) as very distinct.

So some words about this should return to the article. --Tauʻolunga 06:38, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So isn't that already covered because it is already mentioned in the taxobox, along with another synonym, and there are plenty of species where multiple names occur in various sources. The IUCN calls vitiensis a synonym of macrophylla, as does GRIN. But if some sources are still using the old names, fair enough Kahuroa 07:48, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure you get my point. To me a synonym means: 1 species, 2 names. But 'v' and 'm' are seen as 2 distinct species by some. --Tauʻolunga 05:32, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
'Synonym' seems to cover both the situations you mention. Can you tell us more about who said it and when? Kahuroa 06:35, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For example: Multipurpose trees for agroforestry in the Pacific islands; R.R. Thaman, C.R. Elevitch, K.M. Wilkinson (http://www.agroforestry.net/pubs/Multspec.pdf) --Tauʻolunga 07:28, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's dated 2000 - and I note that Elevitch is one of the authors. The same man in 2006 is an editor of The Lex Thompson source listed in the references of this article, so that suggests he has changed his mind between 2000 and 2006, and now includes v in m. Thank you. --Tauʻolunga 07:48, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
