Isaac Black who is burried in the Africa Cemetery and his wife Mehitable had a daughter and named her Mehitable. Mehitable married John Bogart. Johns family came from the Finger Lakes region in New York State, decendents from Bogarts who came to America, helped form the country/government and also fought in the early wars. John and Mehitable Bogart left Ohio and came into Cass County Michigan with Russel Bogart, William Bogart and their families. Cass County Michigan was also part of the Under Ground R.R. They are buried in the cemetery at Edwardsburg Michigan. Good article

I'm curious about your sources. I think there were several families in the area that participated. My Grandparents lived in Africa and were faithful members of the Africa Church. I heard stories about being a stop on the Underground Railroad, but it wasn't talked about much. I think the mansion mentioned is now owned by the LeVeque family, or it was as I remember it. I used to work on the heating systems there, and I remember a maze of basement tunnels. Also, there was an old Cabin on the lot where an old man, who my Dad said was a former slave, lived. He could have very well have been Mr. Isaac Black. We would often work on his heater in the cabin as well. My family, Jaycox, owned two farms just a couple of doors down from the Church. It was taken by the Corps of Engineers for the reservoir, but at least half of the land is still there and goes all the way from the spill way to the woods at that end of the dyke.
