Куса[edit]

Can anyone suggest where this town is and what its new name is?--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♣ 10:43, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is this in reference to? I take it you are not talking about Kusa in Chelyabinsk Oblast, right?—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 15:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, according to the reference materials I have, no locality (rural or urban) by this name existed in Leningrad Oblast since at least the 1960s. Let me know if you want me to look further back, or if it is supposed to be something really old.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 01:47, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not talking about Kusa in Chelyabinsk Oblast. This is for the 1941 period, and the town? had an Army headquarters located in it, so it can not have been that small. Maybe it was outside of the Leningrad oblast in the Karelian area?--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♣ 01:55, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I don't have anything on Karelia prior to the 1960s, and in what I have, Kusa is not listed. Places that are the closest match include Kuusenvaara (Kalevalsky District; no longer exists or was renamed), Kuusini(y)emi (Kalevalsky District), and Kumsa-2 (Medvezhyegorsky District). Unless you have any additional information as to the location, this is the best I can do. Sorry.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 13:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kuusa was a Finnish village in the Muolaa municipality, approximately here. I think that in the Karelian Isthmus in 1941 Soviet army headquarters could well be situated in a small village. Colchicum (talk) 18:29, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, no wonder I was unable to find it using the Soviet sources from the 1960s... Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 18:48, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that! I started to think it may have been the Kosa (north of Leningrad) misspelled. So somewhere around modern Klimovo?--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♣ 01:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Slightly to the northwest of it, I think, around Pchelino and Paporotnikovo. Finnish villages were mostly like groups of separate houses dispersed over some area, and probably little had changed by the summer of 1941, so it is not easy to pinpoint the exact location. У is (or at least was) the standard Russian transcription for both short and long u, so it was spelled correctly. Colchicum (talk) 11:01, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
