The Suez Canal didn't open until 1869[edit]

And we didn't need overseas coaling stations until 1871.

So how could "Britain's decision to acquire the port of Aden as a coaling station for the steamers sailing the new Suez-Bombay route" been true in 1839? Ganpati23 (talk) 03:47, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A new steamship line began transporting passengers and mail from Bombay to the port of Suez in the late 1820s. From Suez the passengers and mail travelled overland to Alexandria (the so-called Suez overland route), where they boarded another ship.
