Canadian Certification

What is the problem with having the canadian certification of "19" on the discography? It's still an album certification whether the Canadian chart position is shown on the discography or not and the Canadian position was shown until recently when somebody swapped it for the French. Many singers discography's have certifications shown without the chart positions being shown on the table. --Duphin (talk) 15:51, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

But if the Canadian position was there all along until somebody randomly swapped it for the French can't we put it back? no because she's had more chart entries in france... and saying that put canada back in because she'll probably end up being more successful there is just WP:CRYSTAL and irrelevant right now. plus canadian certifications are for shipments to retailers, not sales to the public. so it just means the record company sent loads out, doesn't mean it sold more. Either way the Canadian positions were in first and any certification is better than none. Cant we just leave the French chart positions up if you feel so strongly and just put the Canadian certification up too? I really cannot see what harm it does when it a sourced fact pertaining to the album, there are pleanty of discographies with certifications up for countries that don't have the chart figures up at the same time.<---Duphin

Canadian Certification: Pt. 2

The CRIA database is currently down for improvements but they have provided an e-mail adress and will if mailed at that adress send back Adele's Canadian certifications data which shows that "19", "21" and "Chasing Pavements" are all certified Gold in canada. I just thought i'd leave that here to avoid anymore confusion and people putting up and taking down Canadian certifications. --Duphin (talk) 18:01, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Belgian Certification

Do we really need to go through all of this pointlessness over certifications again? If there were already six certifications up and they were all countries that had positions shown already then i could understand why you don't want the Belgian certification up. As it is this is the fifth certification and since there are no others to take it's place it seems pointless not to include the Belgian certifications. Most people who visit Adele's discography would rather see a Belgian certification than no certification at all, Can't we compromise and keep the certifications up until the album is certified in a country that has positions up which can take its place? so follow all guidelines except the ones you disagree with? and belgium is a very minor market compared to the others. that's why it's not included. and including it purely on the basis that something is certified is exactly the reason why we don't include every single place it's charted, it's meant to be an indiscriminate and unbiased selection. not purely including something on the basis it makes it look more successful. I'm not saying that we should NOT stick to the rule (though i think it's stupid when there are only a few certifications, in cases where there are many i can see the point) but on the one hand you're saying it's meant to be an "unbiased" and "indiscriminate" and then you say that Belgium can't be included because it's a "minor" territory which doesn't make sense.

Yes Belgium may be smaller than other countries up currently (though it does have a larger population than both Austria and Swizerland and equal sales thresholds for Gold & Platinum as Austria). Certifications are proportional to the population so being certified Gold in Belgium for example is just as much an achievement as selling 1m and being certified Gold in the US proportionally, so since Belgium has a larger population and equal Certification threshold and IS certified it makes more sense to me to replace Austria with Belgium in the charts. --Duphin (talk) 21:02, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

like the belgian charts, the belgian certifications are also split by flanders and wallonia. so the thresholds are for that region, not the whole country. so the above arguement is irrelevant. the population of the wallonia region is far below that of austria. It's ok it isn't your fault, though i did look at some other albums that had been certified in Belgium (EG, Back to Black & I Dreamed a Dream) and it seems that the charts positions are split between the two regions but the certifications are based on the country as a whole. --Duphin (talk) 21:45, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Water and a Flame

I think we should all discuss whether "Water and a Flame" is a featured SINGLE or just a song on Daniel Merriweather's album Love & War. It's listed as a single on his discography and the album page, has a music video and was reviewed as a single by numerous people and charted in the UK so i think it should be listed as a featured single, thoughts? --Duphin (talk) 14:20, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Wiki still has her US album sales for 21 listed as 750,000. However, http://content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2011/04/britney-spears-tops-album-chart-jennifer-hudson-stays-in-top-10/1 shows that it is currently at 942,000. AllAccess is a legitimate website that states when songs will go for adds to radio stations, which makes it a 'radio single.' It deserves to be under the singles chart because it is being released December 5 to U.S. AAA radio. France

Adding France in charts would be good since Adele is the most successful international artist in this country. 21 has sold 1,100,000 there which didn't happen for years.

Normally, it's a good idea to provide sources for sales figures on here when you try to bring it to the attention of others. I'd say we should wait until France posts all its 2011 certifications (which should happen in the next few months). And if the French certifications for Adele look impressive, then we should replace Ireland with France as the latter has the fifth largest market in the world, whereas Ireland is just a small music market behind markets like Finland and Argentina. I just discovered the (apparent) existence of a "greatest hits" album. Amazon UK lists it (although they don't sell it directly), as does Discogs. Perhaps it would be good to make the charts listed under 'Video albums' consistent with the ones listed under other subheadings on this page (Albums, singles). For example, Australia is not listed under video albums (despite the fact that the ARIA certification is listed under Video albums).
