Addedomarus = Aedd Mawr?[edit]

To the anonymous user who added this: do you have a source for this identification? They look similar, I admit, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're related. I also don't think Aedd Mawr appears in Welsh literature until Iolo Morganwg in the 18th century, although I may be wrong about that. --Nicknack009 19:28, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aedd Mawr is first mentioned in the Red Book of Hergest as father of Prydein. So Morganwg didn't invent Aedd or Prydein, though obviously he made up a lot of stuff. As for the identification fo Addedomarus and Aedd Mawr, it wouldn't be the first time the Welsh recorded someone only known from nuministic sources; John Koch shows that Tasciovanus, known only from his coins otherwise, is found in the Harl. 3859 genealogy for Rhun ap Neithon as "Caratauc map Cinbelin map Teuhant"--Teuhant being Tasciovanus. So it's entirely possible. MaryJones 02:42, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Having said that, I'm not the one who added it, and it's a moot point, since it was original research. MaryJones (talk) 21:36, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
