Misleading years[edit]

It seems a bit misleading to list films by the date they were created rather than the award year (always the year after). After all, this article has not to do with the films themselves, but rather the awards they won. It'd be easy enough to fix all of this, and I probably will after a spell if no one objects. --Czj 12:48, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you "fix" it, it will be inconsistent with other pages Academy Award pages. Unil recently the Academy referred to the award ceremony by the year of the film's release rather than the year of the show's broadcast. -ErinHowarth (talk) 00:28, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Recipients[edit]

I just want to say that I appriciate someone trying to add in the names of the producers who received the awards. It looks like a big job. -ErinHowarth (talk) 00:28, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More Info?[edit]

I was surprised there is not more info about the category for this award. What is a short subject documentary? How is it different from a documentary feature? I imagine it has to do with length, and if so what is the maximum length? If not what? Who actually gets the award - the director, producer, writer? I assume they are often the same but still interesting to find out. Who in the academy nominates the films in this category? Are there any restrictions or qualifications required regarding style, medium, distribution (broadcast or theatrical or?)? (by that I mean some documentaries add "dramatization/recreations" of events, so would filming a recreation of events disqualify a film? A lot of info missing imo I will try to fill in some of it as I can but would love to see more qualified/experienced people (acadamy people with rule book?) clean it up. Thanks. Echo Monkeshine's comment, how short is short?Pincrete (talk) 18:38, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here are some of the answers. I'm not a member of the academy, but my sister won the Oscar last year (!) so I became familiar with a lot of these questions. A "short subject" must be 40 minutes or less; if it's longer it fits into the "Best Documentary" category. The award is given to the director and producer, selected by the same members of the same academy (the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) who picks the other award winners. To be eligible, the documentary must be available for viewing in a movie theater for at least two consecutive days, whether it is originally created for TV (as last year's winner was) or for a theater. I can't answer the last more involved question, but good luck getting an answer! Rick Goosenberg Goosenberg (talk) 16:07, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
