Why are there so many links to external Web sites? I will need to read the Manual of Style more carefully, but I do not believe this is standard for Wikipedia. Homunculus (duihua) 15:14, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

China vs. the People's Republic of China[edit]

It does not make sense to say that 'China' was established at any time. China is a geographical location. This would be true of any other country. We do not say 'England was established', or 'France was established' or 'India was established.' Please stop edit warring over such a pointless topic and devote your time to more useful edits. China is "a unitary one-party sovereign state in East Asia." Lysimachi (talk) 14:51, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Stalking of my edits aside, a charge which Lysimachi denies, despite evidence to the contrary (but for my edits, would the user have edited?), the terms Lysimachi uses are unnecessarily confusing. E.g. the founded parameter, as they would have it reads as this "1928 (Republic of China)" "1949 (Taiwan)", this despite it referring to the same state, yes post-1949 on the ROC's relocation to Taiwan, instead of the simpler "founded 1928 in Nanjing" and "1949 in Taipei". "Founded by the Republic of China" then "Founded by Taiwan." These are the sort of terms which provide unnecessary confusion and complexity.--Tærkast (Discuss) 18:00, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What about the mainland Academia Sinica?[edit]

This is a very strange article because it does not mention the Academia Sinica in Beijing, which also had origins in the Academia Sinica of the republican era. At some point, the mainland-China Academia Sinica changed the English version of its name to Chinese Academy of Sciences, but at least until the late 1980s it retained the name "Academia Sinica". I don't have any special knowledge of (or contacts with) the institution today, but I know it retained the name in the 1980s because its physics department invited me to give a couple of lectures there and I still have an old letter from my contact, dated 1987, on letterhead of the Academia Sinica: at the top 中国科学院研究生院, and in English "Graduate School, Academia Sinica", with the postal address "P.O. Box 3908, Beijing, The People's Republic of China, Telephone: 81-0831". Sayitclearly (talk) 17:24, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
