Proposed merge with Tafsir al-Thalabi[edit]

User:Dbachmann has suggested merging this page with Tafsir al-Thalabi. My instinct would have been to keep them separate. But I do note that the Encyclopaedia of Islam, 2nd edn., only has an entry for al-Thalabi, and quite a short one at that, most of which comprises information about his two works, which don't seem to have been studied much. Abu Ishaq al-Tha'labi lived in Arabian Abbasid Caliphate era, that time there nothing call Iranian scholars, also, in his books never mention his race is Persian.

Ibn al-Athir in his book (اللباب في تهذيب الأنساب) 1/238 said (وَفَاته ذكر أبي إِسْحَاق احْمَد بن مُحَمَّد بن إِبْرَاهِيم الثَّعْلَبِيّ وَيُقَال الثعالبي الْمُفَسّر الْمَشْهُور النَّيْسَابُورِي لَهُ تصانيف مَشْهُورَة مِنْهَا التَّفْسِير الَّذِي فاق غَيره من التصانيف فِيهِ قيل إِنَّمَا قيل لَهُ الثَّعْلَبِيّ لقب لَهُ وَلَيْسَ بِنسَب قَالَه بعض الْعلمَاء توفّي فِي الْمحرم سنة سبع وَعشْرين وَأَرْبَعمِائَة)

mean (al-Nīsābūrī al-Thaʿlabī) is just nickname not mean his race (from Nisaburi City) . source

back to al-suyuti's tabaqat al-mufassirin , he don't mention Abu Ishaq al-Tha'labi is Persian at all. (All he said in tabaqat al-mufassirin book is : أحمد بن محمد بن إبراهيم أبو إسحاق النيسابوري الثعلبي صاحب التفسير المشهور، والعرائس في قصص الأنبياء.كان أوحد زمانه في علم القرآن، عالماً بارعا في العربية، حافظاً موثقا.روي عن أبي طاهر محمد بن الفضل بن خزيمة، وأبي محمد المخلدي وجماعة.أخذ عنه الواحدي.مات في المحرم سنة سبع وعشرين وأربعمائة وله كتاب ربيع المذكرين) page 28 ,here
