Name[edit]

There are no English, Catalonian, Baden-Württemberg, Quebec or Victorian Grands Prix for example. Does anybody have a reference to why this GP supposedly will be named for a subnational entity? /Kriko (talk) 14:11, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find a reference, but my guess is that the intention behind the name is a desire by the Abu Dhabi government (who are making the investment) to promote their own city/emirate, rather than the UAE as a whole. (And with my cynical hat on, calling this race the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix wouldn't prevent there being a Dubai Grand Prix if the Dubai government decided to throw some $ in Bernie's direction...) Yep. That's kind of my thoughts too. I guess we'll have to see how things turn out, and if any proper references will turn up once the race is officially announced on the calendar. Afaik, the Catalan government are quite heavily invested in the GP at Barcelona, and with the European GP in Spain, it wouldn't be surprising if Catalonia would want to follow the Abu Dhabi example to promote themselves rather than Spain. /Kriko (talk) 20:13, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flag[edit]

I don't think it's right to do, because the website [1] says "Abu Dhabi is delighted to have secured the right and privilege to host a Formula One Grand Prix from 2009 on behalf of all of the United Arab Emirates", which is the whole country --Rosp (talk) 22:22, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FIA uses the flag of Abu Dhabi instead of the flag of the Arab Emirates. Take a look at www.fia.com - I'll change the flag.--Professor Processor (talk) 14:56, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be the UAE flag. The official F1 website is using the UAE flag [2]', and also on the FIA website, in the calendar section, the country of the event is listed as UAE. [3] SchueyFan (talk) 13:49, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First ever F1 night race?[edit]

There is another article here on Wikidpedia stating that Singapore held the first night race. Only one of these can be right. Of course, it was Singapore in 2008. This needs to be corrected.

I think you'll find the article says that the Abu Dhabi GP was the first ever day-night race (i.e. starting before sunset and finishing after), which is correct. DH85868993 (talk) 10:05, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Race distance[edit]

The distance shown here is the length of the circuit, which is 5.554 km, multiplied with 55 for the laps. And the result is 305.470 km. But based here, the full distance is 305.355 km. Which distance should be followed? Babymissfortune 15:59, 17 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do we really need to include the sassy track critiques in the circuit description section?[edit]

I don't understand how citing two articles on some trendy sports blogs justify including a semi-paragraph-like section complaining about how the track needs to be changed/removed. I have watched the Abu Dhabi GP for years and years and never ever thought there was anything wrong with it. Heck, I consider it one of the flagship F1 races and I consider it a uniquely Formula 1 suited track. Well suited for open wheel racing. The Yas Marina circuit officials bowed to the pressure of TWO ARTICLES to change a whole race track, and it's safe to say that Wikipedia in all likelihood helped put it on the firing line, kickstarted by some complaints from bloggers and a Ricciardo complaint that was likely made after he read those blogs! That is crazy. I'm not saying we need to bring back the old layout but we didn't "need a change" either. And we don't need complaints about the track on the article, it's not relevant, and it ought not to be portrayed as a controversial or highly disliked race because it never ever has been. If anything, F1 has been viewed as "more boring" than other series because engine manufacturer and a car's aero package matter a lot more than who's driving the car. But again, the layman reading the article about the race does not need to hear all that--it's just talking for the sake of talk and it's taking up unnecessary space.

Reading between the lines in the above and the section in question, there is a major neutrality issue, which is about to be tagged (by me) and needs to be fixed. SSSB (talk) 11:36, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Merged the criticism into the main article Yas Marina Circuit where it is balanced by alternative views, and copied more neutral summation from the main article to here. That should solve the neutrality issue and improve consistency.

Thanks. On a side note it's funny that I stated a few weeks ago that the Abu Dhabi GP is not a controversial race and now it's the most controversial F1 race of all time.
