Untitled[edit]

Aasif Mandvi is the "Middle Eastern Affairs Correspondent" for The Daily Show.

< http://akas.imdb.com/name/nm0541902 >:

also known as:

Aasif H. Mandviwala, born 1973, Chicago, Illinois, an Indian actor based in New York.

Mandvi_(disambiguation). Hopiakuta 08:03, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do wish that these people would explain why it's so offensive that his roots are: India, Chicago, New York. &, that, his name appears on a disambiguation page.

Or, is there a policy to delete everything that I write?? Hopiakuta 17:33, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your information was probably deleted becasue it was not formatted and it was partly redundant. Please try to work within the article format and it's less likely that your edits will be reverted. --Dhartung | Talk 00:16, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that these two are different: Mandvi_ ; Mandvi_(disambiguation) . Thank You. Hopiakuta 01:54, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tonight they referred to John_Oliver_(comedian) as the "newest" staffer.

What does that mean for Aasif_Mandvi?? Hopiakuta 05:00, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Born?[edit]

Not according to this article, which states that he was Mumbai-born.Is it talking about the same Asif Mandvi or a different one? Please check this.Hkelkar 11:16, 2 November 2006 (UTC) Its the same one—Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.240.68.20 (talk) 15:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Type and stereotype[edit]

Since there is no such thing as "a typical Middle Eastern/South Asian person" (is there supposed to be something which typifies Israelis and Sri Lankans? Could we say on the Daily Show Jon Stewart plays a "typical American"?) I changed typical to stereotypical, which appears to be what was meant. John FitzGerald 14:16, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought I've concluded that maybe something else was meant. What it could be, though, I'm not sure. If it means only that he plays people not born in the United States, then typical is unnecessary and unjustified, and could simply be removed and the sentence modified to clarify that he plays people born outside the U. S. John FitzGerald 14:21, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to everyone who took care of this issue by adding information to the article. John FitzGerald 14:23, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

native spelling[edit]

Does anybody know how his name is spelled in Hindi or whatever alphabet they use. 12.216.179.97 16:54, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Year of birth[edit]

His IMDB page [1] says that he was born in 1966, not 1973. Is there a citation for either? Mitch Patenaude 21:44, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Muslim?[edit]

Someone needs to add a citation showing he is a Muslim. He might be a Parsi. Anyone know for sure? Ayengar 07:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"[...]I was raised Muslim.[...]" See here: http://www.aasifmandvi.net/biography.html

Besides, Aasif Mandvi would be a very untypical name for a Parsi. He does not look typically Parsi either. User:Bavajee 10 July 2007

It was also mentioned in last night's show, though again, it is portrayed more as a heritage thaan a practised faith. Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 21:04, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the edit screen, a note above the categories states that religion cats should not be added when it is not relevant to their public life. However, his religion, along with his race, is definitely relevant to his role on The Daily Show. F W Nietzsche (talk) 21:09, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How? I watch the Daily Show all the time, and I don't remember him having a whole lot to do with Islam specifically. Asarelah (talk) 22:52, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He just said he was, ha. 70.20.24.134 (talk) 04:15, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Did they change his name?[edit]

I seem to recall in his early days at the Daily Show, they'd give him a different fake eastern-sounding name every time they used him, making him appear to be stereotypically from whatever middle eastern country he was "reporting" from. Now, they use the same name every time, which I have to assume is his real name, but I distinctly recall him being introduced by other names in the past. Am I imagining it? Or did this actually happen? Lurlock 17:46, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're imaging this. mucklet 26 August 2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.81.137.126 (talk) 04:47, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

Law and Order[edit]

Mandvi had a cameo appearance in Law in Order in 2000. The episode is called "Honor" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0629667/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.7.210.144 (talk) 18:33, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edited[edit]

I took out the stupid comments about his parents not liking him and it was sad to grow up with him. It's either irreverent, irrelevant or poorly written. 20:43, 1 December 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Boils (talkcontribs)

Voice acting[edit]

Now this may just have been a one timer, but mr. Mandvi did voice act for the audiobook version of the Tales from the Crypt story "Fare Tonight," (which is apparently a wholly different version from the animated one?). I don't know if that's of enough significant to be mentioned, but as he has also done voice acting for Avatar: The Last Airbender, would it be appropriate to make a "Voice Acting" section? Just a thought. Cheers. 93.166.114.170 (talk) 11:18, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Patrick appearance[edit]

I was confused by the statement: "In November 2014, he appeared on the very popular The Dan Patrick Show. On the show he reviled a story from his book No Land's Man, that his father moved his family to the U.S. because the U.S. has brunch." Does the author mean "revealed", or "reviewed", or maybe just "read"? How did he "revile" his own story? And is Dan Patrick's show "very" popular? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fraaklin (talkcontribs) 06:04, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"book reader" vs "narrator"?[edit]

Is there a particular reason it says "book reader" instead of "narrator" in the Television section? Dfrakes (talk) 08:27, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
