Medical input[edit]

A calorie is not a calorie, because it takes more energy to digest proteins, than it does carbs 1.129.97.99 (talk) 14:14, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Although this is true for the raw calorimetric data, the calories on food labels are adjusted for this effect.[1] JDowning (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:44, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to Lulu Hunt Peters?[edit]

Perhaps a reference to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lulu_Hunt_Peters as she popularized the notion of calorie counting? Randal L. Schwartz (talk) 21:14, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Weight Loss Pyramid image seems out of place...[edit]

So it's obvious that this article relates to nutrition and healthy eating, but the food pyramid image included seems out of place. At the very least, it doesn't belong in the header, but to me it doesn't even seem to fit well into the article at all since the food pyramid and other weight-loss stratagems are not mentioned once in the text. 2601:281:C400:FC7D:4C32:745F:D22C:2146 (talk) 22:54, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It doesn't serve any clear purpose and is presented without comment. To my eye it looks like it's trying to be persuasive, which is not the job of the encyclopedia. --108.24.91.71 (talk) 04:29, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CICO[edit]

CICO is redirecting here but this page doesn't seem to convey what CICO usually stands for, which is, a weight loss method that consists of eating less calories than you burn, eating calories depending the body's TDEE. It seems like CICO could use its own page, I wanted to get some thoughts on this topic before starting a new page for CICO. Some of the headings/information would include CICO, Benefits, Calculating CICO Diet, Disadvantages, Results, etc. Let me how this sounds. Dailywriter007 (talk) 00:23, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That would be Calorie restriction. Alexbrn (talk) 05:58, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah thanks for that Alex, should “Calories In, Calories Out” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calorie_in,_calorie_out) redirect to that page then? That seems to be a lot more related that this current article. Isn’t CICO more synonymous to calorie restriction? If so, let me know and I will go ahead and make that edit. Dailywriter007 (talk) 06:15, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure, but this page should not be a redirect, since it's not the same thing. This article is (or should be, it's in bad shape) about the question of whether calories in food have different net effects on body fat. Some people think that different macronutrients have different effects e.g. in the carbohydrate-insulin hypothesis. Alexbrn (talk) 06:31, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Right that makes sense, perhaps a good starting point would be to improve this article a bit, double check the references it makes to CICO and removing the redirect. I will try to suggest some edits after doing some more thorough research. Thanks for your input! Dailywriter007 (talk) 06:52, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
