If it officially starts at the Tollcross junction (which I believe it does) then why does "Lothian Road" redirect to here... Lothian Road lies beyond its northmost limit!--Stephencdickson (talk) 13:06, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A702 is the recommended route rather than A1 all the way because the Scotland section of the A1 goes round the east coast and is therefore not a very direct route to Edinburgh. The direct route would be the A68 from Darlington but that would be about 130 miles of country road, compared to the 45 or so that is the A702.
The motorway/trunk road all the way route would be to remain on the M74 until nearly Glasgow then cut through to the M8 using the A725 and A8, although that is longer in mileage than the A702 and would possibly take longer.
J13 where the A702 hits the motorway is actually the point where the A74(M) becomes the M74. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.1.87.186 (talk) 23:35, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was intrigued by this and looked up the information published on the current Google map and Street View. There is a small, snail like appendage to the north end of the A702 which actually has a junction with Lothian Road, but never overlaps it. The overlap runs the length of Earl Grey Street. I've altered the article to reflect this, and altered the target of Lothian Road to the correct A700. Baldy Bill (sharpen the razor|see my reflection) 02:38, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
