Waterloo[edit]

The article states that the 59th returned to England, where they were disbanded. Whether this is correct, I do not know, but they first returned to Ireland, on board the Sea Horse and ‘Lord Melville’, which together with the ‘Boadicea’, carrying the 82nd Regiment, were all wrecked with huge loss of life. It does indeed seem that a detachment of the 2/59th were on board the Sea Horse wrecked off Tramore, Co Waterford in January 1816 losing. Five companies under the command of Major Douglas of whom 16 officers and 287 privates were drowned and 4 officers and 19 privates survived. I think battalions had 10 companies at this time so it was about half of the unit. They were headed from Ramsgate to Cork, I wonder if they may have been onward bound as drafts to the 1st Battalion in India? Anyway, if we can find some reliable sources we can add it in...
