555 PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT[edit]

I notice some reference to the 555th PIR. Sorry, the 555th PIB never got inflated to Regimental status. When it was decided to inflate them, the decision was made to integrate them into the 82nd ABD as the 3/505th PIR, which is their status to this day. Nickle vs Nickel[edit]

The 555th refers to themselves as the "Triple Nickles" not the "Triple Nickels". According to the organization's website: "The 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion was nicknamed the 'Triple Nickles' because of its numerical designation and the selection of 17 of the original 20-member "colored test platoon" from the 92nd Infantry (Buffalo) Division. Hence, the origin of the term Buffalo Nickles; the spelling derives from old English. Three buffalo nickels joined in a triangle or pyramid is the identifying symbol."
