Why is Menendez in publicly expressed interest and not declared?

Why are we not including candidate positions?

Someone deleted "candidate positions" with the reasoning that we are not here to "promote" the candidates' positions. I would think that the publicly stated platforms of the candidates are important information for the 2024 US Senate election in NJ. Both pages are filled with character attacks on Tammy Murphy rather than substantive policy issues that the candidates have stated. Wikipedia is a network that makes it more accessible for voters to access information about the candidates' position and helps them inform their votes. The media has drawn a lot of attention to certain controversies such as the county line, which the pages have included-- I have not touched these parts, as there are a lot of criticisms from New Jerseyans about the issue. I want to make sure that we're also talking about the substance of the candidates' platforms and therefore included information on ALL of the candidates as publicly stated. Surely there's a standard protocol within the WP Politics universe on what to include on policy positions — at least major and Notable ones — especially for current candidates, who automatically fall under WP:BLP.

Platforms, as published and promoted, are almost always marketing documents, and often full of puffery. But surely a cogent editor's presentation of policy positions via NPOV is a service to the reader.

I would like to get other editors' opinions on where we should place the candidate positions section. I don't think it's fair to anyone, especially Wiki readers, to bury the candidate positions under what seems like a barrage of criticisms against just Tammy Murphy in the Democratic primary. Look, im trying to assume good faith but it is the oldest Wikipedia PR trick in the book to fill a page with bland useless text to obscure facts of note. There are articles written about how to sanitize a page with such inserts bc most Wiki readers dont read more than a couple paras in. You wrote that long winded summary and seem desperate to slap it up top when the national media is laser focused on the nepotism and county line. You were told by others that as a brand new single-purpose editor who has been repeatedly asked if you are associated with the campaign, you should gain consensus to major edits.

i also note you have repeatedly tried to upload flattering glamour shots of Tammy from her campaign page notwithstanding copyright. Now it could be just that you're a fan of Tammy who doesn't know the copyright thing (I used to not know it either when I started editing). But you seem REALLY into sanitizing Tammy pages. Isn’t “whether Menendez is running” still ambiguous?

Here's a piece from yesterday's NYT that continues to say that Menendez may still run:

I read the Reference citation saying that he is definitely out, and I understand that there are many reasons why he would not run. But we have seen other politicians use campaign donations for legal fees and other legal (and illegal) personal purposes. I suspect his assessment of his best path to staying out of prison is under constant review. Even if he is telling confidants that he won't run, he presumably still has the legal right to change his mind.

Isn't our encyclopedia obliged to be cautious on this until the decision is actually final, per WP:BLP?

Perhaps characterizing him as undecided or unknown — but noting that at least one RS is saying he won't —would be more proper at this point.

I feel like we should take out all the endorsement maps in the Dem primary section

I say that because with the County Line being abolished, doesn't make much sense to have the maps anymore. I also feel that it's too cluttered, mixed in with endorsements from municipal level parties, the county chairs individually, ones from the State Assembly/Senate. Idk it seems too cluttered and I think we should remove them all to be honest. I would suggest keeping the State level endorsements but so few have been made I also don't see the purpose. I think having multiple maps there could have caused confusion, particularly after the ruling against the County Line, but I wouldn't be opposed to restoring the final county map as it stood before Murphy withdrew, as long as it's labeled as such. Sunshineisles2 (talk) 00:39, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
