Every source talks about a fifth car being prepared for Jimmie Johnson, not for Kanaan. The citation to the AP specifically says "Ganassi will have four IndyCar teams next season, and he told AP he will run a fifth in the Indianapolis 500 for Jimmie Johnson". Based on this, the 48 should be used by Kanaan (I'd imagine by contract or something) and JJ on another car, even if 48 is JJ's number. Doesn't it make more sense to put TK on the 48 and JJ on the TBA for Indy? Drfebusinc (talk) 08:22, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's the problem with the confirmation being buried in an article about Ganassi getting out of NASCAR; it's a brief mention with no other details which makes any interpretation of who gets what number WP:OR until further confirmation is issued. I based the table on the simple fact that 48 is a number closely associated with Johnson (7 Cup championships and 4 Brickyard 400 wins) and also the fact that many teams, including Ganassi, will sometimes change the numbers on their cars for Indy (like Dario running 50 one year). I have no doubt that TK will have the "4th" car and JJ the "5th" car, but the numbers are definitely subject to confirmation. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 14:28, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

From RACER just now:The decision suggests seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will enter “The Greatest Spectacle In Racing’ for the first time in the No. 48 CGR Honda, as the team adds a fifth car to its Speedway roster for Tony Kanaan. The 2013 Indy 500 winner signed a two-year deal to race the No. 48 on the ovals and would need the team to field a fifth entry to meet the terms of the contract. “We’re running five cars,” Ganassi told RACER. I think this suggests leaving the table as-is.

In the Confirmed Entries table, Stefan Wilson is marked as being eligible for Rookie of the Year. My mistake – Doh! I misread his article, and now see that he only competed in one 2013 race, plus the Indy 500 only in the other 3 years. Indycar does not award or recognize separate oval and road and street course Champions.[edit]
