Why are Ian and Hermine not listed in alphabetical order?
Hurricane Ian formed before Hermine as Tropical Depression Nine, but it did not become a tropical storm (and thus receive a name) until after Hermine was named. Storms are listed by order of formation rather than order of naming.
Why isn't Ian listed as the strongest storm?
The intensity of a storm is measured by lowest pressure, not wind speed. Fiona had a lower pressure (932 millibars) than Ian (937 millibars), thus it is listed as the most intense.
