PSD led coalition colours[edit]
After Le Lis et le Lion edit, I think it should be wise to discuss if PSD led coalitions should have the same colour as the leading party (orange), or should they have different colours like teal for PSD/CDS, darkblue for PSD/CDS/PPM and purple for PSD/CDS/PPM/MPT. Or orange for the PSD alone, and with smaller parties, and just darkblue for PSD/CDS+other parties coalitions, like in the Portuguese wikipedia. - There are already so many different colours and so many different coalitions! I think it becomes much easier to understand and interpret the tables if we use only orange for all coalitions led by the PSD. Any different usage adds to the confusion, especially if the colours are many and criterion chosen is hard to understand (such as your idea of the distinction between teal, dark blue and purple). - Right. My last point was if it makes sense to standardize the colours of the Portuguese wikipedia with the English wikipedia: Orange for PSD and dark blue for all PSD/CDS+other coalitions. - Well, not all Wikipedias need to use the same colours... But the tables presented at the Portuguese Wikipedia gather similar right-wing coalitions on the same line, which makes it all substantially easier. Even so, I think the easiest option is to just use the colour of the leading party. The same reasoning applies to maps: when we look at them, we want to see basically where the right-wing was most voted, and that can be easily conveyed by painting in orange the municipalities where the PSD (or a PSD-led coalition) won and in light blue those where the CDS-PP (or a CDS-PP-led coalition) won, much more easily than numerous colours to distinguish the perhaps dozens of possible right-wing coalition configurations. In fact, I suppose there is a similar reason why red has been consistently chosen to represent the CDU — although, in this case, I suppose it is also partly because we tend to recognise that the PEV is clearly a satellite party of the PCP and that dark blue is a very confusing (not to say absurd) colour to be chosen to represent a far-left coalition. But it opens a precedent to show that it becomes clearer, at least in local elections, when a coalition is represented by the colour of the leading party.
