Premature[edit]

This article seems significantly premature in creating. Angus King neither officially declared re-election nor has Paul LePage officially declined seeking the seat. The election is more than 3 years away.--TM 15:04, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

King said during his cancer announcement that his re-election plans would not be affected(if he wasn't running, he wouldn't have mentioned running). I believe King has also been clear from his initial election that he did not intend to serve just one term(assuming the voters want him). I've found at least two sources stating that he is running. LePage said that his comment about considering running was a joke. If he was joking about considering running, that sounds like declining the idea to me at least. LePage bought a house in Boothbay that he will live in after his term is over; he wouldn't buy a new house if he was considering going to Washington. 331dot (talk) 20:38, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like too much speculation. Neither King nor LePage has formally announced anything. They've alluded to the potential of either running or not running, but there has been nothing close to a formal announcement either way from either way. It is misleading to say one way or the other.--TM 13:16, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What matters is what the sources state. King doesn't have to hold a formal press conference. 331dot (talk) 13:31, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am willing to concede that LePage has not expressly rejected running; I have changed the entry accordingly. 331dot (talk) 13:36, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Presumed nominee[edit]

No one should be listed as the party nominee until June 13th, when the winners are known(even if unofficially). OnAcademyStreet It might be likely or even almost certain they will win, but as a factual encyclopedia we shouldn't list them as the nominees until they actually are. 331dot (talk) 14:47, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • They are in fact the nominees. It's not "almost certain" they will win; they will with, with 100 percent legal certainty. No other candidate is eligible to even have votes counted in either primary.OnAcademyStreet (talk) 14:50, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • They are not the nominee until after the primary. We don't need to state any presumptions as it is quite apparent to readers that Brakey and Ringlestein are the only official candidates. Any number of things could happen to prevent either man from being the nominee. Not being eligible hasn't prevented Max Linn from keeping his campaign active. 331dot (talk) 15:09, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • You say "write ins are possible," but they are in fact not possible; write-in candidates in the primary had to have filed with the Secretary of State's office by April 15. No one did so in either primary. Even if a write-in candidate received half a million votes, they would not be eligible to win. No one is eligible to win the Republican primary but Brakey, and no one is eligible to win the Democratic primary but Ringelstein. Pretending otherwise is doing Wikipedia users a disservice.OnAcademyStreet (talk) 16:02, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
        • What does a disservice is to claim things are true that are not. They are not technically the nominee until after the election; they do not cancel the election if there is only one candidate. If you can point to a Wikipedia policy, guideline, or general practice that supports your position, please do. 331dot (talk) 16:10, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also guessing Linn's campaign is still active with the hope that he will still get the most votes, so he can then sue to be declared the winner. 331dot (talk) 16:11, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@MAINEiac4434: Yes, I know, I nominated Eliot Cutler for deletion. I reopened it as a redirect to the 2010 Maine Governor's race today because it may be a popular search term. Redditaddict69 17:48, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
