The total number of seats listed for each party add up to 137, but then the total number of seats listed at the bottom is 205. Which is correct? --Jfruh (talk) 07:16, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not certain but I think both are wrong. According to the page Landtag of Hesse, as well as what is stated near the top of the infobox on this page and the previous elections page (Hessian state election, 2013), the total number of seats is 110. The total number of seats for each party in the last election also added up to 110. I'm sure an article from a reputable source that has covered the election results could clear this up quite easily. There's a minimum of 110 seats, 55 FPTP seats and 55 party list seats, yet the party list seats are distributed as to have the resulting share of total of seats (FPTP+list) be the closest ppssible to the share of party list votes, as to get proportionnality (for parties that reach the threshold). But the number of FPTP seats is fixed by the numbers of candidates who won in their own constituency, and can't be lowered. So when it is somewhat close to the calculated share of party votes, it remain at the 55 minimum, like last year. But if you have one or several parties who got very few FPTP seats yet reached the % threshold, you have to give them lot of party list seats to compensate, sometime more in total than the 55 minimum. It's this situation we got this year, as well as the election before the previous one. See the table on the french page for a better look on the whole thing. ;) --Aréat (talk) 13:41, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
