Article fails to mention that perp was a pro-Trump superfan
"[The] 21-year-old New Mexico resident lived a prolific life as a white supremacist, pro-Trump meme peddler who was most known for his obsession with school shooters...[A tattoo with the] words "build wall," were found above his left knee, KOB4 reports, which appears to be a reference to President Donald Trump’s promise to “build a wall” in an attempt to keep illegal immigrants out."

- Forgive me, but I find your reply somewhat humorous. When I brought up a glaring omission of bias, you pointed me to an editor whose contribution history shows them engaging in Trump denial. This is precisely the problem. Editors are removing all mention of Trump from these articles, namely articles where Trump has been implicated in so-called acts of incitement of violence—acts which have connected Trump to the perps by their own admission. Final investigation reports?
Both the local police in that jurisdiction and the FBI said they were working on finalizing the investigations during the media coverage when the article was composed. Where are the links to the final investigations and results? Viriditas (talk) 03:25, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Unusual aspects
- local NM authorities went out of their way to dismiss ties to white supremacism before the autopsy report was released and before the investigation ended, even though the father of the perp spoke with the media and blamed neo-Nazi websites, and the autopsy report later showed multiple white supremacist tattoos; The Daily Beast later uncovered what the SPLC referred to as "racist messaging" online by the perp.
- somewhat unsurprisingly, Florian Hartleb documented the same pattern of denial and downplaying by the German police of far-right extremism in the previous case of David Sonboly and the 2016 Munich mass shooting. Sonboly was later discovered to have been in close contact with Atchison, in what is now described as a virtual online terrorist network. It has been ignored by authorities for some unknown reason. According to Hartleb, it took the German police three years to finally give in and admit that the Munich attack was a case of far right political violence. Given the close connections Sonboly and Atchison had, and the involvement of other known lone wolves in the virtual network, the question needs to be asked why the NM police and the FBI have failed to likewise categorize this incident as far right political violence.
- authorities told the media the perp had never been in trouble with the law, but we now know that the perp was involved with law enforcement in at least three previous incidents: the neighbor next door had called the police on the perp twice for threatening to shoot or kill them, and the FBI had previously investigated the online threat, mistakenly going after the brother instead of the perp
- multiple books on the subject of school shootings say that the perp also used the online pseudonym of "Elliott Rodger", but this isn’t mentioned in this article
- Hoffmann et al. 2020 explicitly argue in favor of the "absence of a specifically political motive" while arguing that Atchison was more of an incel terrorist. This is an odd and unusual position to take, as the authors themselves discuss how incel ideology is part of the far-right political movement, and note the example of the neo-fascist Proud Boys incorporating men’s rights activism, described as a "convergence of politicized misogyny with far-right activism". Like the FBI, the New Mexico police, and the German police, Hoffmann et al. contort themselves into logical pretzels denying the political motive of the Aztec shooter.
- From a sociological POV, Currier 2021 directly challenges the notion that Atchison was an incel terrorist, as he never self-identified as an incel, or rather, was not linked to the incel community per se. According to Currier, "terrorism is, and should be, limited to describe politically motivated attacks against civilians", bringing us once again full circle back to the initial question.

- Alt-right material has contributed to the radicalization of men responsible for various murders and terrorist attacks in the U.S. since 2014. Critics charge that the term "alt-right" is merely a rebranding of white supremacism.
This incident falls under that description, regardless of the repeated denials by the police in the face of the evidence and the experts who study it.
