It is the WJHC, there is NO ICE.[edit]

I seem to be in an edit war with someone who doesn't follow hockey. The name of this tournament is the World Junior Hockey Championship. It has never, by anyone, been called the WJIHC. It's commonly called the WJC or just world juniors.

2015 World Junior Hockey Championship is the only sensible choice for the title of this article (and no ice for any article about an international hockey tournament, juniors or the regular world championship).

On the website of the IIHF*, the world governing body, nowhere is it referred to as the WJIHC. In fact on their site it's referred to as the World Junior Championship.

yes I'm aware some smart guy will come along and say "But but it's the International Ice Hockey Federation!" Ice is in their name solely to prevent people not familiar with the sport from confusing it with field hockey. I have been a diehard hockey fan for over 20 years and nobody, absolutely nobody, calls it ice hockey. If someone says "ice hockey" it's a sure sign that they come from a country where the sport isn't popular. There is not a single hockey fan in North America who calls it that. There is not a significant league in North America or Europe with "ice" in the title (unless you count the EIHL in England, but hockey is not popular in England and the EIHL is by no means one of the major leagues in Europe)

The IIHF in their rules, archives, encyclopedias, etc. uses "ice", why is that I wonder? And if the official records of the official governing body uses it, why not us? Does the German league count as significant?18abruce (talk) 12:45, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at this. http://www.worldjunior2016.com/ The logo says World Junior Championship. THE SIGN the champions are holding says 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. It is referred to as WJC all over the site. The only time the word "ice" appears on the entire website is in the IIHF's name and the Helsinki Ice Hall. It is not called the WJIHC on any page on the entire website. Wikipedia is giving this tournament a name that is not used by the world governing body, let alone anyone else. Normally this would be cause for mortification and a rush to correct it. You are using the wrong name. There is no argument against this. It is referred to as WJC all over the site. " So the title of the tournament does not have the word hockey in it either. Which you admit to repeatedly. So if you go based on that both ice and hockey should be removed from the WP page. Or to prevent confusion on a worldwide site you pull the name of the sport in to the title, the sport is ice hockey as defined by the organizing federation itself. Now you can get pissed and swear and all that but you have not given support to your case but actually the opposing view.

WP:CON talks about the standard way things are worked out on here. So far the consensus is to include the words ice and hockey...I would hope other editors would weigh in and if the consensus sways the other way, I would be happy to leave the word(s) out.
