Requested peer review[edit]

Tony, this looks good to me in most respects. I like the graphics, including the maps showing the game locations, the tables, and the brackets. Here are several suggestions for getting this to FA quality:

  • The "reference links" tool in the toolbox added to the archived PR finds four small problems with citation format. Three citations should use "cite news" instead of "cite web", and one citation appears to be naked, without a "cite" at all. You can use the tool to see where these are. I didn't hunt them down.

Lead

  • The phrase "and became Division I postseason eligible in 2011" would be more clear as "and became eligible for Division I postseason play in 2011".

Automatic qualifiers and Tournament seeds

  • I probably don't need to say that these two "unreferenced section" tags will need to be addressed. If you are lucky, all the data comes from a single source, and you can fix the problem with a single citation or a single note containing a single citation.

Final Four – Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia

  • "During the Final Four round, the champion of the top overall top seed's region was to play against the champion of the fourth-ranked top seed's region, and the champion of the second overall top seed's region was to play against the champion of the third-ranked top seed's region." - Suggestion for clarity: "During the Final Four round, the champion of the region with the overall top seed was to play against the champion of the region with the fourth-ranked top seed, and the champions of the other two regions were to play against each other."

Media

  • I'd suggest spelling out the state names rather than using the ZIP code abbreviations, which may be unclear to foreign readers. The Manual of Style advises against ZIP abbreviations in any case; i.e. instead of IL, you would use Ill. However, here I'd recommend Illinois.

International

  • Past tense in the first sentence since the tournament is over?
  • Does "whiparound" need explaining?

References

  • Three different kinds of date formatting appear in the existing citations. Pick either m-d-y (U.S. standard) or yyyy-mm-dd (bot standard) to use throughout.
  • Some citations, like citation 8, are incomplete. Citation 8 needs a date of publication, a publisher name, and an access date.
  • The citations should use title case throughout even if the sources don't. Lots of newspapers don't use title case in their headlines, but we normally change these to conform to Wikipedia house style. In that style, the important words (but not little words like "on" or "the", unless they are the first word) start with a capital letter, and no words appear in ALL CAPS.

Best of luck with this. Finetooth (talk) 22:08, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Louisville as champions[edit]

Yes, the NCAA handed down sanctions. No, those sanctions have not reached their final stage yet. Until such time as https://www.ncaa.com/history/basketball-men/d1 shows 2013 as not having Louisville as champions, it needs to stay. Edits such as this are not helpful. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 16:48, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Those sanctions have reached their final stage and Louisville has been stripped of its 2013 title: https://deadspin.com/ncaa-denies-louisville-appeal-and-strips-2013-title-br-1823163864 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.202.108.209 (talkcontribs) 19:48, February 20, 2018 (UTC)

NCAA upholds Louisville penalties[edit]

The NCAA denied Louisville's appeal of its sanctions on 20 February 2018, which means Louisville must vacate all of its records from this tournament, including the national championship. DavidSteinle (talk) 17:24, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes--does anyone have a clear idea how to handle that? Clearly, Louisville is no longer champion, but is there no champion, or does Michigan become champion? If that, is there no runner-up? Is Louisville's name removed from all games they player, or are they just not credited with winning them? I see the NCAA hasn't yet updated the information on the 2013 tournament in the history section under men's basketball on their website. https://www.ncaa.com/history/basketball-men/d1 Jbening (talk) 22:35, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see folks have gone ahead and credited Michigan with winning the championship, but so far no sources have been cited in support of that claim, and the rest of the article hasn't yet been changed to reflect the claims at the head. Jbening (talk) 23:32, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Michigan does not become the champion. The NCAA still shows Louisville as champions[1], with an footnote explaining the title was later vacated. This is in line with what was done when (ironically) Michigan vacated the runner-up position in 1993 [2] I would suggest reverting the lastest change which states Michigan as the winner 202.89.36.162 (talk) 01:41, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
so there was no champion that year. Thus, under "champion", it should simply say "vacant" or "vacated", unless NCAA declares Michigan to be the champion of that year. --Jdrouskirsh (talk) 21:33, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@DavidSteinle, Jbening, and Hammersoft: This discussion is taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College Basketball#How to handle Louisville?. Please address all future comments there. --Elisfkc (talk) 17:43, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I feel that we should leave everything up there and just write vacated next to it. If you delete information from the page than we will have to go to every college page and delete all of their vacated information as well. So all we have to do it write vacated next to the items that were vacted similar to other NCAA basketball pages like UCLA, Syracuse, St.Johns, as well as others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex22406 (talkcontribs) 18:29, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
